Landscaping the centre of Diosig

16.11.2011

The local administration in Diosig (Bihor County) started landscaping the area in the commune’s centre. The works are being financed by the Administration of the Environmental Fund, which approved the project, called “Landscaping the centre of Diosig”

“Through this project, the commune’s centre will have a pleasing aspect which residents have long awaited. It will be a total transformation which will turn our locality into a really European one”, Diosig RECL manager Diana Corbuţiu says.

Works have started in September and will end next year. The current situation of public green areas in Diosig is degraded. The total value of the investment is 440,824 Lei, out of which 396,380 Lei represents governmental financing and 44,444 Lei represent the contribution of the local contribution.

“The causes of the degraded image are the lack of borders, leading to a dusty and muddy image, the cars parked all over the place, the trees which are planted without any order, the old public infrastructure. By setting up these green areas we are aiming to improve the quality and ambiance of the locality’s centre. The space will be set up traditionally, focusing on the aesthetic and functional with plants from the local flora”, the project’s technical sheet says.

The project involved setting up the pavements, the green areas, planting trees, as well as placing new furniture. The total surface covered by these new works is 10,100 square metres.

“The project aims to improve our commune’s image, and this will be seen very soon. We need as much green as possible, and having it in the centre of the locality is very beneficial”, Diosig mayor Bacsó László Endre says.

This is not the only project aiming to increase green areas in Diosig. Several months ago, PAPI wrote a project to set up such a green space by getting financing and turning the area in a nicely laid out ground, including a play area for children.

“Through this project we are trying to build a park in an area next to the Ier river in Diosig. The space is 600 metres long and is nowadays derelict. The project comes as a solution for an old problem since there is not recreational facility in the commune and no functional playground”, RECL manager Diana Corbuţiu says.

The project is under evaluation by the financing authority.

Such projects are also implemented in other communities of the Knowledge-Based Economy Project, like Zlatna in Alba, Săcueni and Marghita in Bihor, Șercaia in Brașov and Belin in Covasna.

The governmental programme implemented by the Administration of the Environmental Fund is dedicated to public authorities who come forward with project for the development and modernisation of public parks, for creating new parks, squares and planted areas, or rehabilitate existing ones. The programme aims to increase green surfaces per capita in localities and having them approach European standards.
