The Commune’s Library in Ştefan cel Mare (Călăraşi County) won the second round of „Biblionet- The world in my library” competition. The national BIBLIONET programme is worth a total of USD 26.9 million and is being financed by the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. It spans five years and is being organised through the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) Foundation.
The library is working in a new building, raised in 2007, at the beginning of the Electronic Network of the Local Community through the Knowledge-Based Economy Project.
Ever since then, the institution had an internet-connected computer, and now, through Biblionet, four more computers, a scanner, a printer, a video projector, headphones and video cameras. As such, all citizens have free Internet access, while pupils can also use educational software including 19 computers classes for 5 subjects, covering the entire school curriculum from the first grades and up and including high-school level. The software is installed on two computers.
