The Târgu Frumos City Library and PAPI organised in July a round table called “70 years from the pogrom in Iaşi – thoughts, ideas, feelings”, a part of a series of actions dedicated to local history. Seven decades ago, on June 29th, June 30th and July 1st 1941, historical events, which market the course of the city’s and country’s history, were taking place in Târgu Frumos.
The deportation of the Jewish population in Iaşi, known in history as the Iaşi Pogrom, also affected people in Târgu Frumos, where 640 victims are buried.
The City Library and PAPI commemorated the event by organising a debate attended by pupils, students, adults, a special guest being prof. Dan Fripis, author of „Popular wisdom”, a book evoking the events based on oral history. Also on the programme were projections of short documentaries about the Holocaust as well as slideshows and a book and photo exhibition.
