Women in Roata de Jos want to start their own businesses
17.01.2012
| On December 5th, training for commercial workers has started at PAPI Roata de Jos (Giurgiu), in the course of a project called "E-WORD (Empowering Women for Rural Development). Some 26 women are attending, all convinced the diploma they get in the end will help them either find a job or start a business. |
Among the 26 women who joined the class is Aurelia Creiniceanu. At 46, she lives with a pacemaker, and such health issues are making it hard for her to find a job. When she learned that PAPI Roata de Jos organises trainings for commercial workers, she didn’t hesitate in joining. She wants to get the CNFPA certificate which will be recognised by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Education< she is convinced this is the first step towards an older dream.
„I want to open a bookstore. It’s something I’ve dreamed about. No one will hire me, given my health problems. But I thought that when I have my own library it won’t be too difficult to get books, sign contracts with printing houses and talk to teachers in schools to get the exact books and teaching aids pupils require”, Aurelia Creiniceanu says.
E-Word, a rescue for women in Roata de Jos
Women in Roata de Jos who attend the course are seeing it as a salvation. Many have no qualifications and their only concern is raising children. Others need to requalify since they no longer find jobs in their line of work. “The target group is composed of stay-at-home women who are not hired and do not receive any benefits from any institutions. They are 20 to 46 years of age; some left school early and only have 8 years of schools, since for various reasons they could not continue their studies. They needed this qualification because they couldn’t get hired nowehere. Now, the course offers them an exit from home, a widening of their horizon, and a competence certificate in the end”, Cristina Drăghiciu, superior councillor at the Roata de Jos City Hall, says.
Practical training in stores
The project is implemented by the National Federation of Unions in Agriculture, Alimentation, Tobacco and Complementary Areas and Services – AGROSTAR, financed through the European Social Fund, SOP HRD 2007-2013, Priority Axis 6 – Promoting social inclusion, Key Intervention Area 6.3 – Promoting chance equality on the job market.
The curriculum is large and involves not just theory but also days of practical work in various companies. “There are six chapters of theory. Trainees are learning which documents they need in a company, health and work safety basics, how to treat customers, how to display products and to test the market. The training will last until the end of January”, Cristina Drăghiciu says.
