EPSA 2011

The Knowledge Based Economy Project has received a new certification of Good Practice at the 2011 „European Public Sector Awards” (EPSA) within the European Institution of Public Administration.

The Best Practice Certificate has been received upon three evaluation steps made by an experienced jury, comprising a shortlist of 58 nominees from a total of 274 projects from 33 participating countries. The Ministry of Communications and Information Society, through the Project Management Unit, competed  in the EPSA 2011 Awards at the „Smart Public Service in a Cold Economic Climate”category. This Best Practice distinction rewards and certify the outstanding results that KEP Project has had until now.

 

The COMPUTERWORLD Honors Program

The Project Management Unit, within the Ministry of Communications and Information Society, has been named a Laureate in the 2011 ComputerWorld Honors Program.

The „Knowledge based Economy Project” joins 254 others from 23 countries as Laureates in this year’s program, from more than 1000 applicants world wide.

The Awards Ceremony will be held in June, 20th 2011, in Washington D.C., USA.

 

National Agency of Public Servants

1st Prize at the National Competition of Best Practices in Public Administration, , for "Improving public services through quality management and organizational performance" category, organized by the National Agency of Public Servants in 2010.

Knowledge based Economy Project is considered to be an example of good practice in Romania's public administration due to its remarkable results, its proven efficiency and its disseminated practices.

 

THE HIGHEST HONOR IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Finalist, at the International Project Excellence Awards 2010, in "Project Excellence in Medium-Sized Projects" category, organized by the International Project Management Association (IPMA).

The solid implementation and success of the IT&C Training Program in school and business and the eCommunity.ro Portal, both part of the KEP Project, have impressed the IPMA jury (Project Management International Association), who recommends them as one of the most important achievements in project management.

 

e-Inclusion 2008

Medal at the e-Inclusion Competitionorganized by the European Commission, at the section “Geographic Inclusion” section, Vienna, 2008. The Knowledge based Economy Project is considered an example of good practice for effective use of IT&C and digital technology to tackle social disadvantage and digital exclusion.

 

Romanian IT&C Awards 2006

Knowledge Based Economy was considered to be the "Project with the best informational content" at the Romanian IT&C Awards – Bucharest, 2006, for contributing to the extensive process of expanding access to information technologies and modern communications to rural communities.

Implementing ICT in schools

Objective: Increasing the quality of education in secondary schools by means of integration and expansion of information and communication technology (ICT) in the teaching and training of human resources in ICT. Amplification ratio of digital culture in primary and secondary school.

General: Providing schools with educational resources and computer facilities for teaching (computers, educational software, multimedia equipment) as well as connecting these schools to the Internet and to the Electronic Network of Local Communities (RECL), directly contribute to the development of the educational environment and learning conditions. Results: increase the attractiveness of the learning process, diversifying teaching methods and practices and to move emphasis from informative to the formative. By building specific skills, students will be able to contribute actively to the value added of the educational process and to develop personal criteria for the selection and use of information.

Process progress

  • Public policies for ICT integration in the pre-university environment, have been adopted formally by the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCSI) and Ministry of Education, Research and Youth (MECTI) and endorsed by the General Secretariat of the Romanian Government;

  • The project to establish good practice communities was implemented between the participating schools. Results:

  • Projects covered all regions of the country and were initiatives of schools in innovative and collaborative use of ICT resources for school development. Also, projects have motivated teachers to actively participate in professional development projects and partnerships with schools in the EBC network;

  • Activities that took place during the process“ School Networking”, in order to improve project management skills and educational management, to develop relations of cooperation between schools and institutions participating in the EBC project similar to the European Space. Following experiments carried out in them, will launch an extension of the activities of the process “School Networking”, focusing on finding resources for to link formal school activities with other extracurricular activities and ICT resources.

  • Both teachers and students had the opportunity to improve their professional experience in ICT substantially participating in the contest e-Vacanţă, has reached its 4th edition (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). The competition was conducted in partnership with MECI and offered participants the opportunity to experiment new methods of creative learning in the virtual environment, during the summer holiday. The first 2 editions addressed schools in the pilot phase of the project, but in 2008 43 other schools joined in the beneficiary EBC communities;

  • From the 12th to the 14th of November 2008 the national conference was held in the „Virtual environment and school partnership ” attended by over 300 teachers, who have released the results of the competition e-Holiday and shared common experiences of good practice ;

Perspectives

  • Expanding participation in the national level, a process supported by the platform “eVacanta” from the portal eComunitate;

  • Activities launched under the title “Technical support for ICT integration in EBC schools ” nclude the following components:

    • Assisting the 255 schools in EBC with integrating ICT in the educational process;

    • Developing a guide for teachers the use of ICT in Education;

    • Training of 255 teachersin developing project proposals for funding, in the benefit of the school;

    • Implementation of partnership and school networking activities;

    • Development of cultural projects for the commune libraries and EBC schools with technological assistance;
