More than half of Romania’s oilseed rape production in 2011 will be bought by a single country: Austria. “The oilseed rape production this year was 860,000 tons and almost all of it is already sold. A single country, Austria, asked Romania for more than half of the harvest, some 480,000 tons. Oilseed rape is very well sold in Romania and on external markets since 2007, regardless of all the criticism we receive for growing it”, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Valeriu Tabără says.
He said that the only regret he has for now, regarding this culture, is that we do not have at least 600,000 hectares grown in Romania, and only had 390,000 hectares this year. Unfortunately, the prognosis for the 2012 harvest is hardly optimistic, since the draught came exactly during the best time for seeding. This year, 558,697 hectares were scheduled to be seeded and on 272,563 works are already complete.
