Members of the Diosig community, in Bihor County, and Sântimbru, Harghita County, have been especially trained at the
PAPI centres in the two communities.

40 people from Diosig and Sântimbru have successfully graduated from a crash course in IT&C, organized in their
community through the
Knowledge-based Economy project. The course’s main purpose was to teach people how to use a computer and its
Microsoft Office/XP/Open office
components, usually used at school and in business.
The course mainly targeted teachers, local business people and potential investors. The accent on the local business
environment was mostly visible in
Diosig commune. Forty people here benefited from two free training courses, in two different sessions. In the end,
the graduates received diplomas
attesting their computer skills and knowledge. The graduation ceremonies took place in the presence of the Mayors of
the two localities, Kencse Elod in
Sântimbru and Bacso Laszlo-Endre in Diosig, during events organized in November.
Diosig
In Diosig (photo 1), the event had a more official look to it and took place in the city hall meeting room. “The
Knowledge-based Economy project is
very important for us, you can say that it pulled our commune out of anonymity. Through it, the Diosig commune and
its events are known much faster at
county and even national level. I congratulate the trainees for the enthusiasm and interest they’ve shown”, said
Mayor Bacso Laszlo-Endre.
Sântimbru
In Sântimbru (photo 2), granting the diplomas was a special moment within the celebration of the commune’s days. The
event took place on the stage of
the house of culture of the village, in the presence of almost 250 people. “Our commune has become richer. We now
have 40 villagers here who know how
to use a computer, and we hope their numbers will grow in the future and add to a positive evolution of our
community”, says Mayor Kencse Elod. For
three days, the inhabitants of the Harghita commune had fun at this celebration, which also included cultural and
sports events.
Local representatives of the project also took part in the graduation ceremonies, such as local coordinator Papp
Adolf and the RECL manager, Kozma
Istvan-Florin, in Sântimbru, and local coordinator Lorena Stoica and the RECL manager, Diana Corbuţiu from Diosig.
Diosig commune lies in the Western Plain, and the nearest town to it is Săcuieni.
It’s a commune close to the Hungarian border, and we are linked with this neighbouring country through the
Letavertes – Săcuieni customs.
Sântimbru commune lies in the southernmost-Western point of Harghita County in the Olt River gorge, and borders
Covasna County in the West, andCiucsîngeorgiu
commune in the north. Sântimbru
Băi, a balneal resort always in the centre of the
locals’ interest, is also part of this administrative territorial unit. The resort lies at an 1,259 altitude in the
Harghita Mountains.
