The monograph of Saschiz to be created with help from PAPI

03.09.2011

PAPI Saschiz (Mureş County) and RECL employees received financing amounting to 11,000 Lei from the National Cultural Fund, money that will be used to promote local culture and traditions. The project is organised by the Saschiz City Hall in partnership with the Ioan Dacian school.

The City Hall of Saschiz, in partnership with the Ion Dacian State Gymnasium, is implementing the cultural project called “Saschiz – pages of local history”, from August 15th to November 15th 2011. The project has received non-reimbursable funds worth 11,657 Lei from the Administration of the National Cultural Fund, as part of the second financing session in 2011, on the component Cultural education. “The purpose of the project is to consolidate the cultural identity of Saschiz by involving the local community in showcasing and promoting the local cultural heritage, be it material or immaterial”, RECL manager Florentina Călugăr explains.

The general and specific aims of the project are to educate 10 volunteers who will animate the social and cultural life of the commune, increasing the interest for culture, especially amongst youth, facilitate the revitalisation of local traditions, customs or trades by started a group in which at least one such craft would be practiced again. The group of volunteers dedicated to cultural events and traditions will happily complement the one created by PAPI Saschiz during a project financed by the Knowledge-Based Economy Project. The project was founded on the need of increasing access and involvement of young people in PAPI by creating a corps of volunteers promoting RECL services and projects. “One of the most important aims of the project is to publish a monograph of Saschiz, by showcasing the cultural heritage and the history of our commune. This is an older objective which can be implemented through this project”, Florentina Călugăr explains.

Part of the project’s activities will take place at the Regional Cultural Resource Centre in Saschiz, located at the local library, and the other part at PAPI. However, the entire PAPI equipment is available for personnel involved in the project, so that its effects on the community in Saschiz can be maximized. “It might not bring a lot of money, but it is a very important project for us. The cultural heritage and local tradition must be passed onto the youth that can carry them on. We will have a group of volunteers dedicated to the cultural events in the community. We will also have a monograph presenting the history, culture and traditions for future generations”, mayor of Saschiz Ovidiu Şoaită says.
