PAPI Gârda de Sus to offer logistic support for developing ski slopes
28.11.2011
| One of the most anticipated investments in tourism scheduled in Alba County during the last years has been postponed once again. The “Glacier” ski complex in the commune of Garda de Sus will not be completed this year; but 2012. PAPI and RECL employees are willing to offer logistic support in order to inaugurate the slopes as soon as possible. |
The Glacier ski complex will be the most important private investment in Gârda de Sus, a commune part of the Knowledge-Based Economy Project. However, the issues arising in the last three years have set the inauguration date back. Initially, the ski slopes were to open in December 2011. However more time is needed to clarify the legal status of all pieces of land and to authorise the cable transport for the 1,000 km long gondola which has already been built.
“Ski slopes are vital for the touristic development of the commune. PAPI and RECL employees helped the investor at first, but the issues arising on the way led to unwanted delays. We are still open in offering logistic support in order to inaugurate the slopes of Gârda de Sus as soon as possible”, RECL manager Gheorghe Rădac says.
When the investment started, RECL employees helped measure the land and lobby the local administration for the quick processing of documents needed by investors to set up the slopes and the cable car installation. Through a 1.2 million Euros investments, three slopes were set up; the first has 1,100 metres and with high difficulty and is aimed at experimented skiers, the second is 1,600 metres long and has average difficulty while the third is longest at 2,200 metres but is aimed at beginners.
So far, the necessary infrastructure is almost complete – investors have built a 1,000 metre long cable car, lighting system, water pools for the ski cannons and electrical installations.
The highest swimming pool in the country
The investors also planned to have the highest-placed swimming pool in Romania in 2012, 1,100 metres high, in a fairytale setting. Starting next winter, tourists and locals who love winter sports will be able to enjoy the three ski slopes developed here.
“This season is lost. The important thing is to finalise all these issues so that in May 2012 we may offer tourists the swimming pool 1,100 metres high – it will be a first in Alba in Romania and the cable transport. Next winter we hope the three ski slopes will be functional”, Rareş Gărduş, one of the investors, says.
Certified ski slopes in Alba County
In Alba County, there are certified slopes in Arieșeni and the Șureanu Domain. The Arieșeni resort has two slopes – one for begginers, the other of medium difficulty. Both slopes have a night lighting system and cable car transport. The Șureanu Domain is a recent investment, through which 7 ski slopes have been developed: four of medium difficulty, two easy and a difficult one. These slopes have two cable car installations.
