PAPI Pătârlagele - „Youth Support Centre”

19.09.2011

Young people in Pătârlagele, Buzău, will attend at PAPI a Microsoft – Unlimited Potential training, accredited by PAPI, with 8 modules for literacy and specialisation in IT, through a partnership with the Subcarpatica Association and the EOS Foundation in Timişoara. The training is part of a project created by the RECL manager, called „Youth Support Centre”.

PAPI Pătârlagele is developing its services by taking over the part of „Youth Support Centre” as part of a project with a 5,000 Lei budget, financed by the Buzău County Council. The manager of RECL Pătârlagele, prof. Constantin Mircică, is also president of the Subcarpatica Association. “In spring, the County Council opened a financing line for NGOs and public institutions, and I proposed the „Youth Support Centre” project. Young people will get help in accessing financing for their own business or creating the necessary files”, the RECL manager says.

Beneficiaries will also attend free IT training, thanks to the partnership with the EOS Foundation in Timişoara, which implements Microsoft software. For people wishing to specialise, an accredited CNFPA training will take place certifying people as “text and image processing operator”, spanning dozens of hours. Participants will become skilled in maintain peripheral equipment, processing text and drawings, photo processing, creating presentations and transposing the work on support. “The trainings organised during the project are based on the Microsoft UP curriculum, Unlimited Potential, during 8 modules, but the main module includes the basic notions. First, we are getting people who know nothing about computers to become literate and then include them in other modules as they specialise. In this partnership between PAPI, actually between the City Hall and the EOS Foundation in Timişoara, our partner for over two years, we had another CNFPA accredit training in 2010. This year we took the same route because it’s more simple and effective this way. They get accredited and cover the expenses. I am also a trainer and have the IT specialization course, so I tried to be a trainer for the CNFPA course as well. We’ll do the same in autumn. We already have 7 or 8 people, but I think our first group will reach 14 people”, Mircică explains.

New youth services from PAPI Pătârlagele

A part of the „Youth Support Centre” project was buying an A3 copying machine, used to help young people put together the necessary documents for getting financing, getting hired or getting social support. The copying machine will also help the centre become sustainable. “When the City Hall will no longer fund us, we can offer these services for a fee. But, for now, we are offering our services for free. It’ still good to have this equipment at PAPI, because people wanted, requested such services, which are complementary to a centre where they are editing, printing, laminating; but they couldn’t find something like that in Pătârlagele”, the RECL manager says.
