The National Sanitary, Veterinary and Food Safety Authority has announced the transition period for aligning to community standards on raw cow’s milk produced in Romania has been expanded one year, until December 31st, 2013.
This is the third expansion granted by the European Commission. The initial deadline for meeting milk quality requirements was June 2008. The transition period was then extended until December of 2009 and again until December 2011.
Following this expansion, Romanians raising small numbers of cattle will have the opportunity to sell the milk for at least another year while processing units can still use that milk and sell their products, but only in Romania.
