The European Commission has approved 14 programmes from 11 member countries aiming to promote fruit and vegetables both on the internal market and in countries outside the EU, following the crisis of the E-Coli bacteria.
One of the 14 programme targets Romania. The National Inter-Professional Association “ProdCrom” Fruit-Vegetables will benefit from a total of 984.776 Euros for three years, including EU co-financing worth 492,388 Euros (50%). The aim is to promote Romanian fruit and vegetables on markets in Russia and Ukraine.
Also, Romania is one of three markets, together with Germany and the Czech Republic, targeted by the programme for Bulgaria, which will benefit from a total of 2.5 million Euros, half of which will be paid by the EU.
The total budget for the 14 programmes, which are set to last for three years, is 34.1 million Euros, with 50% co-financing from the EU amounting to 17 million Euros. The programmes are part of a series of measures the Commission has proposed in summer in order to tackle the difficult issues following the crisis caused by the E-Coli bacteria outbreak.
The Commission received requests for 17 programmes, with a total budget of 40.1 million Euros. Only 14 were selected for financing, 11 targeting the internal markets and three countries outside the EU.
