PAPI Diosig brings more green to local scenery

14.06.2011

PAPI Diosig, in Bihor County, wrote a project to lay out a new green space in the commune. The project aims to turn the area in a planned space which would also include a playground for children

The project was written by RECL employees and submitted to Rompetrol, an oil company which finances such initiatives as part of the „Together for each one” programme. The maximum obtainable amount is 45,000 Lei, which would cover the costs with laying out the site and buying the equipment.

„We want to turn some space located on the Ier riverside, in Diosig, into a 600-metre long green area. The place is currently unattended. The project also solves an older issue: not having recreational facilities and playgrounds”, RECL manager Diana Corbuţiu says.

Existing secular trees will be cleaned up, weeds and chaotically-grown vegetation will be cleared from pathways, in order to make the area functional and integrated into the social circuit. It will offer an place to get social and interact for people of all ages, while the recreational area will have street furniture and playground equipment for children.

Social events involving pupils

Activities that are part of the project also involve organising social events. “We will have a school workshop about sustainable development, with the participation of a specialist from the Environmental Protection Agency Bihor. Pupils will be able to express their concern for the environment in a competition called “Get involved, you can make a difference”. The winners will become the local Environmental Guard that will help keep the commune clean. To make the project and the financing programme more visible, we will create promotional materials to be distributed during the workshop and the inauguration of the park. All materials are to be created with PAPI equipment”, the RECL manager says.

For the project to be financed it needs to get as many votes as possible both on the Facebook page of the Rompetrol programme and on the www.impreunapentrufiecare.ro website. Votes count for 25% of the total final score of the project.

The PAPI initiative is appreciated by the local administration. “Our commune lacks a park laid out at modern standards, as well as a playground for children, due to financial reasons. Such a project would be of use to the community, since it answers needs we cannot otherwise address in the near future. We hope to win the project and have the park”, Diosig mayor Bacso Laszlo-Endre says.

Similar KEP activities

The PAPI centre in Diosig is not the only one getting involved in green educational activities. In Recaş, PAPI employees are part of the project „Schools for a green future”, underway at the local highschool. It aims to determine children to become aware that the future of the planet depends on their activities today, so that they become active in environmental protection and conservation programmes. PAPI proposed to the coordinators several ideas and got involvied in implementing them, edited the necessary materials, advertised events online and thus helped raise the school’s profile.

Another example is PAPI Sângeorgiu de Pădure. The efforts of RECL employees and PAPI infrastructure allowed a conference on ecological education to be organised at the beginning of March 2011, with support from the Europe Direct Târnave Centre, that works in the same office as PAPI Sângeorgiu de Pădure. Also, last year, PAPI organised for local preschoolers a session to create decorative objects by reusing old paper, wood, glass and plastic. Online resources:
