Looking back at 2011 with the Letca Nouă RECL manager

24.01.2012

The smallest glance back at 2011 proves the efficiency and involvement of PAPI Letca Nouă in the life of the local community. Several women in the village learned how to turn the idea of starting a business from dream to reality, at the same time preserving local traditions and customs.

Letca Nouă is among the five communes in Giurgiu County which in the past year implemented the project „Women Entrepreneur in the Countryside”, initiated by the S.E.C.S. and Pro Women foundations. Even if, at first, local ladies were sceptical about attending the classes – as the RECL manager confesses – as the programme unfolded participants were thrilled with the information received and knowledge acquired.

„Some 18 house wifes were selected, aged 20 to 40. They were enthusiastic, as some wish to open tailoring or beauty centres. They showed a lot of interest during the courses, and we were happy with attendance levels”, RECL manager Florina Miu says. The project ended in October; it was financed from the Euope

The project is financed by the European Social Fund as part of the SOP HRD 2007-2013. The 18 graduates received CNFPA-recognised certificates.

IT&C infrastructure at PAPI keeps locals in touch with technology

From the very start of the Knowledge-Based Economy Project in Letca Nouă, people have been crowding the Public Access Point to Information (PAPI). Even if in the meanwhile some of them managed to buy their own PCs and connect them to the Internet, the six computers at PAPI remain of great assistance to all those who wish to surf the Internet or keep in touch with loved ones from abroad. People do not hesitate to ask help from PAPI employees every time they are facing an issue.

“A lot of times they come for online research, use the email or ask for various forms which we are trying to offer”, the RECL manager explains.

Information from APIA

In 2011, specialists from the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture have organised at PAPI an information session for all those who wish to become farmers. They offered flyers with useful information for the 3,600 locals in Letca Nouă.

PAPI, of great help for City Hall employees

PAPI computers are also used by City Hall employees when writing the documentation for projects which aim to improve everyday living in the commune. Dozens of projects were submitted and local authorities are hoping the answers will be positive, so that the commune could receive non-reimbursable funds turning Letca Nouă in a European locality.

„Many projects were written. Computers at PAPI are the only Internet source in the City Halls and employees are constantly using them”, the RECL manager says.

The centre keeps popular traditions alive

Traditional bees, a Romanian custom kept alive by the Letca Nouă community, have a new space in 2011. Because the room of the Cultural Centre is too large and cold in spring, bees took place in the welcoming space of PAPI. The RECL manager promises the tradition will continue in 2012.

„In March we will certainly have another bee at PAPI. Main activities include wool processing in the old, manual way, crochet works and taking the corn off stalks”, Florina Miu says.
