Romania cashed almost EUR 35 million from exports of livestock and poultry in the first trimester of the year, a 4.7% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2010, according to data of the Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development.
In the first three months in 2011, Romania placed on intra and extra community markets 16,725 tons of livestock and poultry, especially cattle, sheep and goats, hens, ducks and geese, as well as horses, donkeys and mules.
On the other hand, imports of poultry and livestock decreased in the first trimester, compared to the similar period in 2010, from 9,134.7 to 6,953.4 tons. The value was 18% smaller, decreasing to EUR 17.54 million. The most significant imports were pork, with 5,121.8 tons, valued at EUR 9.26 million, as well as chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowls (835 tons), totalling EUR 5.73 million.
