The rehabilitation and modernisation of the Bucharest – Arad railway, on the Zam – Curtici sector, means that some Arad communes will have to create new zoning plans. Among these are Vărădia de Mureş, Lipova, Curtici, Petriş, Săvârşin, Bârzava, Conop, Păuliş, Vladimirescu, Şofronea and Macea.
Declaring the railway a public utility objective will allow the state to expropriate the necessary terrain and offer compensation to landowners. This is already going on for another part of the Corridor IV, the Bucharest Băneasa – Feteşti railway. The Technical Commission for Land Management and Urbanism of the Arad County Council has already analysed the papers it needs to approve a feasibility study for the investment and the plan for the area’s landscaping.
“The Ministry of Transport aims to improve Pan-European Corridor IV Constanţa – Bucharest – Braşov – Sighişoara – Simeria – border, so that trains can go faster than 160 km / hour. The priority for Arad’s County Council is to help modernise the sector between Zam and Curtici. After the technical and economical parameters will be decided, in the following Government meeting, we will know for sure the cost of this ample programme”, Arad County Council president Nicolae Iotcu says.
