Bălceşti town is situated on the right side of the Olteţ river, in the South extremity of Vâlcea county.
Petrache Poenaru, whom, in 1827 patented in Paris "condeiul portăreț fără sfârșit"
today's fountain pen, is a remarkable personality of our community, who also gave the name of the Post-gymnasium School from Bălcești.
History
Among the 3.220 villages and towns mentioned in the documents of Walachia dating from the 11-17th centuries, a part of the settlements from today's perimeter of Bălceşti town appear.
