Community: Carastelec
With a 39,07 square km surface, Carastelec village is located in the moundy area of the Sălăjeana Plateau, in Toglaciului Mounds, at the north-western limit of Sălaj County. It has as neighbors the villages: Camăr, Ip, Bobota, Măieriște. It is composed by two villages: Carastelec and Dumuslău. The village's centre is Carastelec.
Special, neat households, specific for the Hungarian population villages, together with the Hungarian well-preserved traditions and customs make Carastelec a very attractive habit for tourists. Each year, on September 15th, Carastelec is celebrating. It is meeting again day, when the village's sons, gone away from the village, together with some other guests, are coming back to their ancient hearth in order to honor the village's day together with relatives and other village inhabitants.
History
Carastelec village centre is documentary certified in 1421 under the name Kaloztelek, over time documents mentioning it under different names: 1241-Kaloztelek, 1338-Kalasztelek, 1477-Kaloztheleke, 1481-Kalozthelek, 1584-Kaluttheleke, 1609- Karaztelek, 1679-Karasztelek.

Local resources
Carastelec village has 2008 hectares of arable land, on which straw cereals such as corn, sunflower, rape are cultivated, and also 858 forest hectares out of which wood is being exploited.

Traditions
Carastelec has preservef over time its traditions by cultivating them each year, a vital role being played by the village's young people. Among these traditions, the best preserved are: traditional clothing and traditional dance but also traditional customs that accompany the religious events and not only.
