Community: Oraviţa
Oraviţa city is placed in the south-west of Caraş Severin county near the 45° having a surface of 164,16 Km² and contains other two localities (Ciclova, Montană, Marila) and four villages (Broşteni, Răchitova, Brădişorul de Jos, Agadici).
Although the relief is preponderent pre-mountain, it is characterised by a big diversity. Vast surfaces of hills and plains offer favourale conditions for the development of the agriculture, viticulture, agro-tourism.
"Mihai Eminescu" theater built in 1816 after the model of the theater from Vienna is the oldes theater in the country. On its stage there came theatrical companies from Austria, Germany, Hungary, the National Theater from Bucharest and also personalities like Mihai Eminescu and George Enescu. It represents the first building made of stone in the south-eastern Europe, and also the first lighted building with acetylene lamps from Europe.
And also from Oraviţa starts towards Anina through a dream-like landscape the oldest mountain railway (34 km) with 15 tunnels and 30 viaducts that create a wonderful landscape, unsurpassed in Romania, on which steam engines are still working.
History
From the point of view of the toponimy, the name Oraviţa comes from the Slavian language, "Oravetz" meaning "The Grove of Nuts".
