Community: Sălaşu de Sus
The commune is situated in Hateg hollow guarded by Retezat mountain in the south. It has a relief of plain and hills, being composed of 11 villages located on the rivers that spring from Retezat. The villages are situated at distances ranging from 3 km - Malaiesti and 7 km - Coroieşti towards the communal residence, Sălaşu de Sus. The commune's area of stretching is of 223 square km. The village is crossed by 4 rivers - Nucsoara river, Sălaş river, Alb River and Strei river. Sălaşu de Sus commune has a temperate climate, with a somewhat late spring and the annual average of rainfall is over the country's. Average annual temperature is of 8 degrees C, the lowest in January (-4 degrees C) and highest in July (18 degrees C). Average annual rainfall amounts rise up to 700 mm.
