Community: Sălişte
Sălişte is the spiritual capital of Mărginimea Sibiului. Mărginimea Sibiului is an ethnographic area, unique in Romania, situated at West from Sibiu, between Sadului valley (South) and the valley of Sălişte river (North). It comprises 18 localities: Boita, Sadu, Râul Sadului, Tălmaciu, Tălmăcel, Răşinari, Poplaca, Gura Râului, Orlat, Fântânele, Sibiel, Vale, Sălişte, Galeş, Tilişca, Rod, Poiana Sibiului and Jina. These are, in their majority, old settlements with a population the is mainly Romanian.
Sălişte is the commune with the bigger number of villages from the county, comprising 10 villages.
Because of the setting at the foot of the mountains, with magnificent vecinities and unforgivable landscapes, Săliştea becam a "salon of Ardeal” as Octavian Goga named it. Săliştea gave to the culture, art, science and technique a big number of academicians, fact that turned the name of the city into "the cultural capital of Mărginimea Sibiului”. To this "culture oasis" have contributed the inhabitants too, who through their activity have lifted Salistea on the steps of the current prosperitype, ensuring a reputation among the settlements of the country. Also, Săliştea represents a trully economical center where are deployed activities such as:leather goods, tannery, tailoring, commerce, wood exploitation, etc. The specific pitoresque of this corner, looking like it was taken out of a fairytale, attracts annually a big number of tourists, in the city as well as in the belonging villages. History
Traces of the inhabitation of these places have been found ever since the prehistory, more exactly from Paleolithic. At Sălişte have been found numerous archeological vestiges dating since before the Roman Empire.
