Community: Scăeşti
From an archaeological perspective Scăeştiul is at the confluence of three major archaeologic construction sites, the Neolithic Age (Argetoaia), the Bronze Age (Cotofeni culture), and Roman era (Racari) is an area rich in ceramic inventory.
Situated in a plain area, the commune belongs to the temperate climate area. Through North, going NW-SE, Jiu is passing, having shoals and spring in Salcia commune, until its passage in Scăeşti.
In the commune there are two manors historically dating from the second half of the XIX century: Catargi manor in Scăeşti village and manor Poenaru in Valea lui Pătru. Also in Valea lui Pătru village there is a National Heritage oak, a natural monument, from the end of the XVIII century.
History
Scăeştul area is lived since the Neolithic period, but legends say that the village would have been founded by the boyar Scăeşteanu who would have gained the lands in the area.

Traditions
Our commune is rich in traditional inheritance left by our ancestors, here being respected the carols on Christmas, Joimari/ The Great Thursday fires (The Easter week), Gurbanele, the tradition of building bridges and painted crosses over the sea at the six weeks doles.
