Community: Şopotu Nou
Şopotu-Nou commune, situated in the South-Western part of the Caraş-Severin county has a surface of 84 squared km, including 10 villages from which 3 of them have a centre made from a compact precinct, the others being spread in the territory on different areals - valleys or peaks. The 10 villages are : Şopotu-Nou, Poienile Boinei, Drişte, Urcu, Valea Roşie, Cârşia Roşie, Valea Răchitei, Răchita, Ravensca and Stancilova.
. It is a hilly area, with eroded peaks, dug by deep valleys. The highest peaks are in the South, in the South-East of the commune being the Vacaretu Peak 653 m altitude, Frasinului Peak 670 m, Ravensca Peak 726, Steneac Hill 732 m. The highest central peak is Urzicari Peak 707 m. The commune's Western part is placed on the West-East axe which includes the hill-peaks such as Stancilova 613 m, Cununa Chei Hill, Ciucar Hill. The peaks are separated by water courses with deep valleys that flow into Nera River.

The natural environment of the entire commune has an uncommon picturesque view, the relief is hilly, which leads to the existence of many tourist attractions: passes, caves, karstic lakes, waterfalls.
History
Şopotu-Nou settlement was founded in the year 1828, when 56 families from Şopotu-Vechi, moved here with the approval of the War Council of Imperial Austria from Vienna.
In the 1910 a great flood took place, destroying almost the entire Şopotu-Nou village; only the church and a few houses remained untouched. Because of this, the inhabitants

Local resources
The main activity of the inhabitants is agriculture and animal breeding. The main local resource is represented by the calcite stone which can be found in large quantities on the commune's territory.

Traditions
In Şopotu-Nou commune the inhabitants preserve some traditions passed through generations: one of the traditional customs is the dirge when someone dies and in the funeral day, before the religious ritual, the dead one is seen by 4 or 5 women.
