Ţăndărei is a town from Ialomiţa county, Muntenia, Romania. In the year 1968, by Law no. 2 of 16.02.1968, issued by the Great National Assembly, the Ţăndărei locality was declared city, formed by uniting three villages: Ţăndărei, Ţăndărei Gară and Strachina.
Near Ţăndărei there is the archaeological site of the old settlement of the flocks market-town.
History
Ţăndărei became a town in 1968. The first documentary attestation dates from 18 June 1594, in a document issued by Mihai Viteazul. The first mentioning of the city on a map is in the Austrian military map of Walachia, drawn between 1787-1791, by the landmark service of the Austrian army.
