Târgu Frumos, one of the four cities of Iasi county is located in a region of vivid traffic, lying at the intersection of some important roads and railways which ensure the connection between routes on the way to Iaşi, Paşcani, Botoşani, Roman, Bacău.
The locality is situated in the south-west part of Moldovei Plain, near its contact area with the north-eastern sector of the Moldavian Central Plateau and the south-eastern sector of Suceava Plateau. Being neighbours in the north and south with much higher regions, this part of 300 m, medium height, which lies between the Siret passage and the Moldovei Plain, was destined by its form and low altitude to play the part of a gate with heavy traffic, named ”Târgului Frumos Gate.
History
In his work "A vivid traffic region - Târgu Frumos gate", the geographer Victor Tufescu shows that this fair had been founded in the years 1433-1444, during the reign of Ştefan and Ilias, sons of Alexandru cel Bun.
