Community: Lunca Banului
Being located in the valley of Prut river, the predominat relief is the plain with the exception of a few hillocks which stretch to the west of Lunca Veche village, Oţetoaia and Lunca Banului known under the name of „Chişul Iepurelui”, Pădurea Bastei and the hillock „Saca”.
Prut plain is furrowed by the water of Pruteţ-a brook on the verge of extinction as a result of the works of sewarage for crop irrigation.
The climate is continental temperate and for many years with cold and droughty winters, and summers are hot and droughty, under the influence of the north wind, autumn and spring are characterized by thick fogs that create a difficult traffic.
The main water that serves as a border between Lunca Banului commune and the Republic of Moldova is Prut river whose waters were dam up in the years of socialism in order to prevent floods that brought damages to the crops.
The commune has a high number of young population, the N-E region being the only one with a positive birth rate. It also owns educational units in each constituent village, The School of Arts and Trades from Lunca Banului village, Center of Documentation and Information, medical and dentist office.

Traditions
The commune has some traditions that confer originality such as: the christenings, the weddings, the funerals, the round dance, the outlaw band, the carol on the New Year Day, the goat dance, sowing, the knitting of the ossier (a tradition on the verge of extinction), sittings, the commercial fare, the dedication days of the churches.
