Community: Măraşu
Măraşu is a locality which lies in The Great Island of Brăila, on one of the two branches which surround it, the Old Danube. It is a locality belonging to the small villages category. Most of the inhabitants deal with the cultivation of plants (cereals, sunflower) and animal breeding.
Those from Măraşu can be proud of achieving îndiguirii island, which has allowed it to including of a network of channels grouped by draining systems, which now collects excess water and discharge through pumping stations in the Danube.
History
Established between the years 1810-1812 by one Dumitru Lipan who supposedly built the first shelter in those times.

As a general matter, the island is presented as a large pan with high edges of sand banks-to-arms and the two bottom axial down the north-south, formed from a depression înănţuire the flooded areas, which acted as lakes, swamps, ghioluri, private and backwater.
